Since the winter of 1987/88 there have only been 3 winters the averaged below normal in temperature. 2000/2001, 2001/2002 and 2009/2010. Most of the time we experience warmer than normal temps and below normal precipitation. That is the forecast for this winter.
While that doesn't mean there will be variations, as a whole the winter should average warmer than normal. Ice storms will be more likely and severe weather season should start during winter.
There are all due to the strong La Nina pattern we are under currently.
