LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - With two days before Thanksgiving, some Central Arkansas charities need a hero to make sure that those in need have a Happy Turkey Day.

From volunteers to more turkeys, the need is definitely there right now for some last-minute holiday heroes.

"All of this says that we care, and we are grateful to God," Reverend Hezekiah Stewart said.

Reverend Hezekiah Stewart looked on at a room of full donated turkeys as his organization, the Watershed, prepared for Thanksgiving.

"I said some time ago that if I were ever down and out, I would want to be in Arkansas," Rev. Stewart said.

He's appreciative of the generosity but said, right now, the Watershed needs more.
"I need cooks right now," Rev. Stewart said.

They need folks to pick up a turkey or two, cook them at home and bring them back by 10 a.m. Thursday.

"All I ask is that the turkey be dressed out with love," Rev. Stewart said.

It's love from volunteers that is also needed at the Watershed to deliver meals on Thursday. And the community needs don't end there.

"Down here, we have turkeys that have been thawed out," said William Holloway in the kitchen at the Little Rock Compassion Center.

Director William Holloway said they need more turkeys.

"Right now we need about another 40," Holloway said.

Holloway said that's because they're not just serving Thanksgiving Day.

"This to us is not just one-day for us, we start and feed for the next four to five days because so many people will be out of work or be home," Holloway said.

He expects to feed more than 2,000 people over the holiday weekend and will accept money to buy the turkey or the bird itself as donations.

"Whatever people feel would be God's call to do would be great," Holloway said.

The Watershed is prepared to serve at least 5,000 people on Thanksgiving.

Rev. Stewart added that an anonymous donor gave 500 turkeys and enough plates to serve 5,000 meals with no questions asked.
