LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- THV's lifestyle expert is here this morning with some great ideas for spring décor with flair as well as information about the Little Rock Garden Council Spring Tour.

    Spring Decor with Flair

    Aluminum Can Flowers:

Recycling your aluminum cans is even more exciting when making aluminum can flowers! For a whimsical and fun activity, take an aluminum can and punch a hole at the top of the can with a scissors. (Choose an inexpensive pair of scissors as cutting will dull the blades.) Cut around the top of the can until it is removed. Be sure the jagged edge has been trimmed smoothly. Create any type "petal" using fun designs. After cutting your petals, bend down to create the illusion of a flower. Spray paint with any color. Have fun with these flowers and stack the different varieties you've created on top of one another. Stacking the variety of flowers together will add a fun dimension as well as layered color. Attach to a painted canvas for a unique piece of art inside your home or nail the flowers to the fence for an outside piece of art! Place a votive candle in the center of the flower for a fun twist!

    Painted Can Planters:

When cooking with larger vegetable or soup cans or even coffee cans, be sure to save the cans! Remove the labels and clean the inside of the cans. Wipe them dry, and they are ready to paint! Using spray paint, acrylic paint, or both, simply paint any type of desired design around the can. These recycled colorful cans may now be used as planters or as a vase filled with fun flowers for your next gathering! You may also tie them around a post in your garden for a fun display!
