LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Howdy Partners! If you are going for the western look in your home when you are decorating, here are some things you might want to consider.
1) Don't forget about your walls!
Your walls become primary focal points. In the master bedroom I'm showcasing today, the decorators took all different kinds of cowboy hats, which happen to be their own and are used frequently, and hung them on the wall like a collage. It looks great, and it's like a functional piece of art! The decorators even hung a pair of chaps on the wall.
2) Don't forget about your window treatments.
The curtains in this master bedroom look like burlap. You can use raw burlap or a fabric that is similar to it. The decorators tied the curtain with rope in square knots to add that western touch to it.
3) Don't forget about throw pillows.
They can be cowhide or whatever other material you think would fit in a western-themed room.
4) Remember your art.
We always talk about art and how important it is to a room and to your whole house. Here they did something fun. They took a colorful piece of western art to take away from being "too serious" and "too western". On the wall, we have this cow head that the homeowner painted herself. This is plastic, and you can buy this at a feed store.
5) Don't forget about your rich colors.
The cowboy look is all about dark, rich colors. These walls are a very rich burgundy; even the bedspread carries the same look with nice tones of brown. Overall for a master bedroom, it's a little bit darker, but it's really comfortable.
