Federal workers' pay day -- Oct. 25
Federal workers who were furloughed during the two-week shutdown will start seeing back pay in their Oct. 25 paychecks, say government officials and unions. On top of that, the deal Congress passed late Wednesday paves the way for the Obama Administration to dole out 1% cost-of-living pay hikes for federal workers come January -- the first in three years.

Wal-Mart moms vent on economy and 'disgusting' politics
Ten moms in Nashville sat around a wooden table on Wednesday night, to talk about the economy and the political climate in the nation's capital, just hours before Congress voted to reopen the government. The women had gathered as part of an annual focus group organized in different cities by the country's largest retailer Wal-Mart (WMT, Fortune 500). The meetings help Wal-Mart take the average woman's pulse on what they're confronting in their own lives and also their take on hot national issues.

Verizon: Apple has an iPhone supply problem
Verizon said Thursday it wasn't able to meet customer demand for new iPhones because of supply contraints. Chief Financial Officer Fran Shammo told analysts on a conference call that Apple couldn't provide Verizon (VZ, Fortune 500) with enough iPhone 5S smartphones in the first weeks following its release, resulting in a backlog of orders.

870k Toyotas recalled for spider-related problem
Toyota is recalling 870,000 vehicles because a problem with an air conditioner part could cause airbags to deploy unnecessarily. In some cases, the problem was caused by spiders. Sometimes, their webs can create a blockage in a drainage tube coming from the air conditioning condenser. That can cause water to drip down onto an airbag control module, causing a short circuit. That, in turn, could cause the airbag warning light to light up on the dashboard and it could even cause the driver's side airbag to deploy, something that happens with explosive force.
