    Arkansas Business: Deltic Timber reporting 1st quarter earnings

    LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Arkansas Business) -- Shares of Netflix continued to climb after the company beat analysts' expectations on Monday.

    And Apple is also beating analyst predictions after the market close Tuesday. That company reporting $43.6 billion in revenue and $9.5 billion in profit in its second quarter.

    Ark. Children's Hospital receives $1M donation 

    Here in Arkansas, Arkansas Children's Hospital receiving a $1 million donation on Tuesday for its burn center.

    Officials say the gift will be used to provide an endowed chair for the only burn treatment facility in the state.

    The contribution came from Charles and Cindy Fuller, whose daughter, Rachel, was treated at the burn center after an American Airlines jetliner crash-landed in Little Rock in 1999.

    Rachel died after about two weeks of treatment but the Fullers said they were so touched by the care she received that they wanted to help the center in her honor.

    In all, 11 people died in the crash of American Airlines Flight 1420, including the pilot.

    Deltic Timber reporting 1st quarter earnings 

    Earning season continues in Arkansas, with Deltic Timber of El Dorado reporting first-quarter earnings.

    The timber and real estate firm showing profit of $6.7 million, a vast improvement over the $97,000 it reported in the same quarter last year.

    Deltic attributed the increase to its manufacturing segment as well as higher lumber prices as the housing market continues to recover.

    Wal-Mart U.S. CEO to speak at Harding

    And looking ahead this week: Bill Simon, president and CEO of Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s U.S. stores division, is scheduled to speak at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Harding University in Searcy.

    Simon coming to the university as part of the American Studies Institute Distinguished Lecture Series.

    Simon is responsible for the strategic direction and performance of Wal-Mart U.S., which has 1.3 million employees and about 3,900 stores.

    Tickets are free and seating is open to the public.

    Wal-Mart, meanwhile, is set to hold its annual shareholders' meeting June 7 at the Bud Walton Arena at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
