News Release from AARP:
The 2007 tax season is quickly approaching, and AARP Arkansas is doing its part to help Arkansans through its Tax-Aide services.
AARP Arkansas’ Tax-Aide provides tax assistance and preparation services at no cost to over 33,000 low- and moderate-income taxpayers, particularly those ages 60 and older.
This service is the state’s largest, free, volunteer-run tax counseling and assistance service, and Arkansas is the only state participating in the national AARP Tax-Aide program to generate computer only returns.
In 2006, the AARP Arkansas Tax-Aide received $36,000 from the AARP Foundation to equip 42 tax preparation sites including four super sites helping a total of 33,163 taxpayers including 289 shut-ins complete their returns.
AARP Arkansas will have 42 Tax-Aide sites statewide where taxpayers work with a trained and IRS certified AARP volunteer to file a tax return via the Internet, so taxpayers get refunds quickly and at no cost. AARP’s Tax Aide program has a very high accuracy rate, no tax return preparation costs, and the program helps tax payers receive all of the benefits, credits, and deductions to which they are entitled. All services are free and AARP membership is not required to participate in the Tax-Aide program.
“Preparing taxes can be challenging and even confusing for many people. AARP Arkansas’ Tax-Aide volunteers help thousands of people address these challenges,” said Shirley Matheny, AARP Arkansas Tax-Aide Coordinator.
