GARLAND COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - The Garland County Sheriff's Department has told THV 11 News that burglaries are up in all areas of the county, and residents need to be aware.

"They're kicking in doors of people that are at work," said Deputy A.J. Tart with the Garland County Sheriff's Department.

According to the department, burglaries have increased considerably over the recent months, even with officers arresting several involved in the recent string.

"They're seeming to hit us in multiple places throughout the county." said Deputy Tart.

Deputy Tart said that a couple of arrests were made in October following a traffic stop conducted by Criminal Investigations Department Sgt. Joel Ware and a patrol deputy. He said they were able to recover $37,000 in stolen jewelry and both suspects were convicted felons.

Tart added that both were charged with felony counts of residential burglary and theft of property more than $25,000.

"It is getting closer to Christmas and people are going to be buying more expensive items." said Deputy Tart.

But he says the numbers exceed those typical to this time of year.

The department is asking everyone to be on alert about suspicious activity and strange people hanging around their neighborhoods or businesses. If you notice any suspicious activity, please call the sheriff's department immediately.
