BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) -- Thursday morning around 12:40 a.m., officers responded to the Saline County Road Department on report of a business alarm.
Lt. Kevin Russell says upon their arrival, police noticed someone inside the main building at the facility with a flashlight. A suspect, later identified as Homer Smith, 41, reportedly tried to flee, but was taken into custody without further incident.
Officers discovered that in addition to the main building at the facility being broken into, that the fence around the perimeter had been cut and a smaller storage building had been broken into as well.
Smith, a parolee out of the Department of Community Corrections, is charged with burglary, two counts of breaking or entering, and theft. He was transported to the Saline County Detention Facility for processing.
This is an on-going investigation and further charges could be forthcoming in the case.
