James Elliott dies at Jackson County Detention Center

    JACKSON COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - Jackson County Sheriff David Lucas said an inmate died at the detention center Wednesday morning.

    According to Lucas, James Alfred Elliott, 37, of Tuckerman, was discovered in cardiac arrest around 8:45 a.m.

    Lucas said detention center employees began CPR and notified the Newport Ambulance Service, but Elliot was pronounced dead at the Harris Hospital emergency room at 9:20 a.m.

    Elliott was booked into the Jackson County Detention Center at 11:51 p.m. on March 5 and was being held on an investigative hold for the Independence County Sheriff's Office.

    Lucas added that Jackson County Coroner Cris Driver was contacted, and Elliott's body was taken to Jackson's Funeral Home in Newport and will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy.
