MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. (AP) - The capital murder trial for a man charged in the 2006 killing of a Mountain Home doctor ended abruptly when the defendant pleaded no contest to first-degree murder.
Gary Wayne Parks entered the plea Monday in what would have been the second week of testimony over the death of Dr. David Millstein.
Millstein was Parks' stepfather.
The Baxter Bulletin reports that Circuit Judge John Putnam sentenced Parks to 20 years in prison under the condition that he cooperate with authorities as they continue investigating the case. Prosecutors hinted that someone else may have been involved in the doctor's slaying.
Parks declined to comment when the judge asked him if he had anything to say before the sentencing.
