ATKINS, Ark. (KTHV) - Police are in the process of obtaining an arrest warrant for a man involved in a crash in Atkins.

According to Captain Dale Saffold, Arkansas State Police commander for Troop J, an officer tried pull over a vehicle traveling on Interstate 40 near Atkins at 12:45 p.m. Saffold said the vehicle fled and crashed a short time later on northeast 4th Street.

He said two men (including the driver) and a woman surrendered immediately following the crash, but another man ran off into the surrounding neighborhood. While there was an initial search for the man that ran, officers were able to quickly get his name and are in the process of getting a warrant for his arrest for fleeing.

Police are not releasing the man's name at this time, but Saffold said officers do not consider him dangerous.

The driver was on parole, and the two other subjects that surrendered had misdemeanor warrants from other agencies.
