HOPE, Ark. (KTHV) - Two men attempted to rob a Hope business Thursday night at gunpoint.
Hope Asst. Chief Kimberley Tomlin said at 9:30 p.m. officers were called to the store at 1002 S. Main Street.
Employees told officers that two men, both armed, entered the store and ordered one of the employees against a wall. Tomlin said the employee attempted to grab the weapon and a fight ensued and the weapon fired.
Tomlin said the two kept struggling out the door. Witnesses said the suspect began yelling for the employee to "let him go" because he was "hurt" and had been "hit".
Tomlin said the employee released the suspect and the suspect pointed the handgun at the employee and the weapon "clicked" several times. He then fled the scene.
When the second suspect, who had confronted other employees, realized the other was no longer there, he fled the store.
Both suspects ran toward the dead end located in the 200 block of West 10th Street.
Tomlin tells THV 11 that nothing was taken, and the employee who struggled with the suspect sustained some cuts on his hands.
The suspects are described as both wearing all black clothing and black gloves. The suspect who claimed to be shot was described as being a black male approximately 5 ft. 6 in. tall, slender wearing a brown mask covering all of his face except his eyes. The second suspect inside the store was described as being a black male approximately 6ft. tall, stocky in build, wearing a black mask covering all of his face except his eyes.
