    UAMS awards $300,000 for pilot research studies

    LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences has announced the award of six grants totaling $300,000.

    The UAMS Translational Research Institute announced the grants on Tuesday. Each of six researchers will receive $50,000 to support their studies.

    The six are doctors Ricardo Caceda and Matthew Hardee and Ph.D's Gunner Boysen; Sara Jones; Angus MacNicol; and Mark Mennemeier.

    The UAMS Translational Research Institute's mission is to help speed up research that will improve the health and health care of people in Arkansas and across the country. It was established with major funding from the National Institutes of Health in 2009.
