LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola spoke on the anti-obesity initiative during a presser to kick-off "Love Your School".
"Love Your School" is a school-based obesity intervention, and over the coming year, dietetic interns from UCA will teach a nutrition curriculum to all students along with several other program facets including walking trails being developed on six of the seven campuses, nutritional programming for parents, and improvements to city parks to promote fitness.
"This is a great day today for seven of our elementary schools in the city. We're embarking on our 'Love Your School' program, which is an ambitious program. It's a partnership between the city and the school district," said Stodola.
According to the Little Rock Serves website, the program will also offer a garden enhancement program, which features a series of on-campus raised garden beds for nutrition instruction. Students can even have the option to get a '5x5' bed installed at their home.
