RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) - After 76 years, a campus tradition is making its way back to the Arkansas Tech football stadium.
Escorted by Arkansas Tech ROTC, the new Jerry the Bulldog made his big debut at halftime Saturday. Jerry was adopted as the campus ambassador by a unanimous vote in the Student Government.
The original Jerry died in 1937. He was a key part to the daily life at Arkansas Tech throughout the mid 1930's and spent most of his time at the campus armory with the National Guard. His death was a major heartbreak to the campus, but now his legacy lives on in Jerry the second.
"Today, some 76 years later, we're excited to welcome Jerry home to serve in the role of campus ambassador. He will cheer on the Wonder Boys and the Campus Suns in their athletic pursuits, and he will attend a variety of campus events on an annual basis," said a spokesperson for Arkansas Tech.
The school said Jerry is the living representation of the school's fighting spirits and determination. Needless to say, Jerry is a pretty big deal.
