WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (KTHV) -- The city of West Memphis is focusing its attention on one particular breed of dog, and it's stirring a lot of differing opinions.

The city council is considering banning pit bulls after the Animal Control Commission presented a report showing pit bulls were responsible for 57 percent of the city's 28 dog bites last year.

Around half of the reported dog bites happened at the homes where the dogs lived under the supervision of the owner, but even residents like Lucious Dawson, who don't own pit bulls aren't too sure the proposal is a good idea.

"I don't think it should be an ordinance for just pit bulls. Any vicious dog that is running up and down the road," said Dawson.

Of the 16 pit bull bites reported, 31 percent of the victims were children 14 and under.
