The event will start a look back at the West Ninth Street District which was the hub of the black economy in years past. Next, businesses that have stood the test of time by surviving segregation and integration such as, Sims Barbecue, Ringo Cleaners and Torrence Flowers, will be recognized.

Finally, black-owned businesses that are viable now and will likely be in the future are to be saluted. They include: Pyramid and Hearne Art Gallery, Wood Group & Architects, Inc. and Harlem Lyrics.

City Manager Bruce Moore will hand out medallions to the business owners.

The program took place Wednesday, at 11:30 a.m. in the City Hall Rotunda at 500 West Markham Street.
