LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe is offering more than $678,000 in cuts that he's willing to make to his budget proposal as he continues negotiations with lawmakers.
Beebe on Wednesday detailed the possible cuts to the top Republican in the House. Minority Leader John Burris said he'll support a resolution to introduce the budget bill, but said they're far from an agreement.
Beebe's proposal would affect the Department of Labor, Higher Education Department, Department of Environmental Quality, Arkansas Science and Technology Authority and the Natural Resources Commission.
Burris and Republicans originally proposed cutting the budget by $21 million by reducing some agencies' spending and changing the way a proposed Medicaid budget increase is funded. Burris offered a smaller, revised proposal on Wednesday.
