LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A lawyer for a former Little Rock police officer charged with manslaughter has asked a judge to recuse from the case.
Josh Hastings' attorney, Bill James, on Monday filed a motion to disqualify Circuit Judge Wendell Griffen.
James says Griffen has been outspoken against Little Rock police officers and their use of firearms on minorities and James says that's the issue in Hastings' case.
Hastings is charged in the shooting death of 15-year-old Bobby Moore III. A jury deadlocked in June and Hastings' retrial is scheduled to start Sept. 16.
Griffen didn't immediately respond to an email or phone message seeking comment on Tuesday evening.
