MAYFLOWER, Ark. (KTHV) - Today, the last home in Mayflower's Northwood subdivision with oil still beneath its foundation was torn down.
After purchasing the property from the owner, ExxonMobil said demolition was the best way to take care of the oil. Their focus today is doing it safely.
"They're moving at a rate making sure no one gets hurt and none of the other properties are effected. In fact we have constant air and seismic monitoring going on right and now the local mayflower fire department on site as well as other agencies watching the area", said Aaron Stryk, Exxon media advisor.
Once demolition and backfill is completed, Stryk said they will be in the final stages of remediation for the subdivision. That will rely on the final test results from today's lot. He said there is more work to do, but these are the final steps.
