LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The restoration project for Johnny Cash's boyhood home in Dyess has earned state recognition.

"The Historic Preservation Alliance of Arkansas" awarded it with the "Excellence in Preservation through Restoration" award.

The award was presented during an annual banquet at the Clinton Presidential Center on Friday.

The singer's sister Joanne Cash accepted the award on behalf of the program.

Joanne and her brother, Tommy Cash, were both born in the house and are serving as consultants on the project.

The restored home, which is a project of the Arkansas Heritage Sites program of Arkansas State University, will open to the public later this year.
