It was April 21 when Marianna police say Curtis Vance allegedly started his crime spree. His first victim, they say, was a Lee County High School teacher. She was allegedly raped in her home and DNA evidence was left behind.

Then, over the last few months, police began investigating several home break-ins, some of them at the homes of single women. Officers say tips came in pointing to Curtis Vance. This past Monday, Marianna Police Sgt. Carl McCree says Vance was called in and voluntarily submitted a DNA sample.

McCree explains, "His mouth was swabbed here at the Marianna Police Department where at this time they did DNA testing and within 24 hours on Wednesday came back with a positive match to a related case in Little Rock, Arkansas."

The related case was Anne Pressly's murder. Officers arrested Vance late Wednesday night in Little Rock for capital murder. Friday he faced a judge, not in court but at the Pulaski County jail.

Family members and the media were not allowed in. Bond was denied and a plea wasn't entered.

Today's THV later caught up with Pressly's father Guy Cannady.

"That tells me what we had felt all along, that police had a solid case. So that tells me that the judge concurred with the evidence that was presented initially in the arraignment today," says Cannady.

Deputy Prosecuting Attorney John Hout says trial is likely several months away.

"There are a lot of cases like this that of come through our office. We take them all extremely serious and this one will be taken extremely seriously as well," Hout explains.

Meanwhile, Cannady says he and his wife will likely be moving back to Little Rock from South Carolina to be closer to their dear Anne.

Cannady explains, "We are looking forward to a trial in which we anticipate that the prosecutor will prevail in a capital murder case and then we are looking for a conviction that is appropriate to capital murder."

Rape and robbery assault charges are pending against Curtis Vance from the Marianna case.

If there is a motive for the Pressly case police aren't saying, other than robbery. Police say Vance had several connections in Little Rock. He does not have a prior prison record.
