Judge David Burnett approved a continuance Monday in the case of Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley, who are seeking a new trial under claims that they had ineffectual counsel. The two were convicted along with Damien Echols in the 1993 deaths of Steven Branch, Christopher Byers and Michael Moore.
The hearing is to continue Oct. 1, with prosecutors presenting their case. Last week, the defense brought in pathologists who said that the victims weren't sexually assaulted and that animals may have caused some injuries to the boys. Prosecutors have argued that the 8-year-olds were killed as part of a cult ritual.
