Authorities dragged Nicholas Sheley out of Knox County Chief Judge Stephen Mathers' courtroom Tuesday morning. After Mathers' decision, Sheley called him a "funny guy" and said the judge's rulings were "ridiculous."
Sheley is charged with murder in the deaths of six people in Illinois and two more in Missouri in June 2008.
He's been held in Galesburg since his 2008 arrest. One of the killings was in that west-central Illinois town.
Sheley also is charged with assaulting a jail guard during his stay, and that was the subject of Tuesday's hearing.
