The Marshals Service says 33-year-old Louis Elliott was wanted in Shelby County, Ala., on a charge of failure to appear on charges of sexual solicitation of a child by a computer.
Investigators found Elliott at the Inn Towne Lodge in Fort Smith on Thursday but he refused to open the door to his room. The Marshals Service says officers kicked in the door and saw Elliott had a handgun.
Authorities say Elliott shot himself once in the head after a brief struggle with the officers.
The Marshals Service says there will be an investigation into the shooting.
