Prison spokeswoman Dina Tyler says inmate Eddie Smith Jr. was stabbed while working Thursday morning in the prison laundry at the Tucker Maximum Security Unit. Tyler alleged that Smith was attacked by inmate Charles V. Moorman, who was sentenced to life in prison without parole on three capital murder convictions, as well as first-degree murder and aggravated robbery convictions.
Tyler says the weapon appears to be a blade from a small pocketknife. She says authorities are investigating how the knife got into the prison, as well as the disagreement that led to the attack.
Smith was also serving life without parole for capital murder and kidnapping in Arkansas County.
