VAN BUREN, Ark. (KFSM) -- Sebastian County Sheriff Bill Hollenbeck says his department is awaiting a search warrant for property belonging to convicted rapist Lloyd Jones, 36, who is being held in connection with of a Van Buren teen.
Major Kevin Nickson initially told 5NEWS deputies found a body Friday afternoon at the property off Highway 96 in Lavaca while looking for 16-year-old Angela Allen.
But Sheriff Hollenbeck later corrected that statement saying that cadaver dogs "got a hit" on the property where Jones' family members say he was building a shed.
5NEWS crews report the coroner arrived at the search command post around 8:30 p.m.
Information obtained from Jones led investigators to also search the Arkansas River and bottoms north of Lavaca Thursday.
Jones is being held in the Sebastian County Detention Center on an aggravated assault charge related to Allen's case.
Allen has been missing since Feb. 10. That night around 7:30 p.m., Allen told her grandmother she was going for a walk in her Van Buren neighborhood and never returned, according to police. Investigators believe Allen and Jones met on a social media site and arranged a meeting. The two had been communicating via text messages for several days, says Crawford County Sheriff Ron Brown.
Several agencies, including the Van Buren Police Department, Crawford County and Sebastian County Sheriff's Offices, Arkansas State Police, the Fort Smith Police Cyber Crimes Unit, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation assisted in the investigation.
