MANDEVILLE, LA (CBS/WWL) -- A Northshore baby fighting cancer has inspired people all over the city in the past few months, but it's been a rough road for his family. Today hundreds of students and teachers hoped to inspire his mother, their vice-principal, with a big surprise.

Woodlake Elementary's vice-principal thought she was attending an end-of-year assembly today. But as Tara Dragon Hernandez held her 10 month old son, the school broke out in a surprise flash mob for them.

It's been a rough year for Tara. Her baby boy was diagnosed with neuroblastoma cancer, so she took a leave of absence to help him fight for his life. She says, "Being a part of Woodlake, ya'll are truly my family."

Principal Lelia Parker says, "It's been a difficult year for us but at the same time it's pulled us together to help us become closer I think."

Close enough for nearly 800 students and teachers to learn the song and dance to "Count On Me" by Bruno Mars.

Student Jordan Sturiale says, "It was for Ms. Dragon because her baby wasn't feeling good and she was sad and the baby had to go to the hospital." And Evan Cooper says, "We were doing it for baby Grayson to help him get better."

Baby Grayson has endured four rounds of chemotherapy and surgery at St. Jude's that removed 98 percent of his tumor. Tara says, "So now it's just kind of a wait and see. We'll get another scan. There is 2 percent of active cancer tumor cells left in his body."

But in the meantime, these hundreds of supporters, including family who came from the Westbank and Slidell, say they've formed "The Grayson Nation" and that's getting all of them through the fight. Sister-in-law Stacy Hernadez says, "People from all over the world have been praying for him, so it's worked, it's worked."

Tara and her husband set up a website where you can follow Grayson's progress. There's also a trust for Grayson at chase bank called "The Grayson Nation."
