LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs announced today that Dr. Robert Kerr has been named the medical director of the Little Rock Veterans Home. He will oversee all medical activity at the home and provide primary care for its residents.

Dr. Kerr comes to the facility with 44 years of experience in the medical field. A 1963 graduate of University of Arkansas School of Medicine, he conducted his residency in general surgery at the Little Rock VA Hospital and went on to serve as a general surgeon for the U.S. Air Force from 1965 to 1967. For 37 years he practiced family medicine before serving as the associate medical director for Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield from 2004 to 2006 and then as the CEO and president of Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home.

"We are excited to have such a dedicated medical director during this time of opportunity and challenges at the veterans' home," said ADVA Director Cissy Rucker. "His past professional experiences prove him to be a great advocate for veterans."

Dr. Kerr's new role is effective on July 1.
