LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Pine Bluff police are investigating a convenience store robbery on Tuesday night that resulted in the death of a 26-year-old clerk.
At approximately 8:45 p.m. police and emergency service personnel were dispatched to the Big Red Food Mart convenience store at 2401 East 6th Avenue in Pine Bluff where they found the store clerk shot inside the store. The clerk was pronounced dead at the scence by the Jefferson County Coroner.
The clerk has been identified as M. D. Islam, age 26, formerly of Ozone Park, NY.
This is the third store robbery in Central Arkansas in a week. On Saturday, around 9:00 p.m., three suspects robbed an EZ Mart in North Little Rock. After leaving the store, they returned to shoot and kill the clerk, 29-year-old Akiya Egeston.
Then at 2:30 a.m. Sunday, the Citgo on Marshall Road in Jacksonville was robbed. The clerk was able to run away unharmed. The suspects also got away. Police believe these two robberies are connected, but have not said if the most recent Pine Bluff robbery and shooting is connected to the prior two crimes.
