LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Oct. 6, 2012) - Keep North Little Rock Beautiful, Keep Little Rock Beautiful and Keep Sherwood Beautiful, all certified local affiliates of Keep America Beautiful, are collaborating to host a litter pickup along the Arkansas River.
"These three organizations share a concern for protecting the Arkansas River's ecosystem and natural beauty," said Randy Naylor, chairman of Keep North Little Rock Beautiful. "We encourage our friends and neighbors to help us remove litter from the river's shorelines."
Volunteers will meet today, October 6, at the Downtown Riverside RV Park in North Little Rock at 8:30 a.m. The event will conclude at 10:30 a.m. with a small celebration.
Central Arkansas residents are encouraged to sign up in advance through the Keep North Little Rock Beautiful Facebook page at Facebook.com/KNLRB. Volunteers may also register on-site the day of the event.
"While the cleanup is currently limited to Little Rock and North Little Rock, we hope that it will eventually turn into a full-blown cleanup of the entire Arkansas River," Naylor said. "The river is a source of pride to Arkansas and should be kept clean for the enjoyment of area residents and visitors."
The river cleanup is being held in conjunction with the Great Arkansas Cleanup and the International Coastal Cleanup. The Great Arkansas Cleanup is an annual fall statewide litter pickup effort organized and sponsored by Keep Arkansas Beautiful. Other local sponsors of the river cleanup include the City of North Little Rock, the North Little Rock Visitors Bureau and Davis Rubber.
