The last time Valerie Gibbs' family saw her was before Christmas. Her mom had taken her to run errands and then Gibbs never came back. "She was going over to the next street to go to a meeting and she said she'd call me in a few hours and never heard from her," says Shannon Stevens who is Gibbs’ mother. Dec. 17 is a day Shannon Stevens remembers well. It was the last time she saw or heard from her 44-year-old daughter. "Either she's afraid to come home or afraid someone will do something to her,” says Stevens, “or someone has already done something to her." Gibbs was last seen an Exxon station on Highway 8, just a few miles from her home. It was the same day her mother says Gibbs tried to get a restraining order against a man who was allegedly making threats against her. "I just feel like he's involved and that's where police need to start right now," says Stevens. Arkansas State Police won't comment on specifics of the case. They do say investigators have recently been in the Warren area and have new leads. In addition, they say their involvement will give statewide attention to the case. Stevens says there have been two different calls that her daughter's body was found in ditches near Monticello and Pine Bluff, but neither turned out to be true. Even though more than a month has passed, she's still hopeful her daughter is alive. "You always want to have that hope, and we've had a lot of people praying and I think maybe God can help us," says Stevens. Gibbs in described as 5’ 7” tall weighing about 135 pounds. She has blond hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a black jacket, green shirt and gold colored shoes. If you have any information, you're asked to call the Warren Police Department at (870) 226-3703 or Arkansas State Police at (870) 850-8630.
