LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Republicans will control the Arkansas House after taking a majority of seats for the first time since Reconstruction.

Sue Scott in Benton County has won the State House 95 seat, giving the GOP 51 seats. Democrats have 48 seats and the Green Party has one.

Republicans won the state Senate, too, but the GOP doesn't have the three-fourths majority needed to pass appropriations bills. With Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe wanting to expand Medicaid and the GOP wanting to perhaps reduce the state income tax and maybe reduce spending, the potential for gridlock is high.

Three GOP candidates criticized for racially tinged writings lost their races. One suggested slavery benefited blacks, another called Abraham Lincoln a war criminal and a third suggested deporting Muslims.
