NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The vast First Pentecostal church in North Little Rock just recently made a new purchase-more land.
The property is on the other side of I-40, right across from the church. It's about 90 acres and they have big intentions. A new college, sports complex, and even an additional sanctuary are on the list of possibilities.
One challenge that lies ahead is the fact that the property includes wetlands.
In order to build on the treasured wetland, there is an intricate process one has to take on including the US Army Corp of Engineers.
A permit is required that includes permission from the Coronel of the Corp, and it's not short and sweet.
You must prove to the Army Corp and EPA that the plans are the least damaging alternative to the environment, and most practical.
Mitigation, or compensation, will also be part of the process. That means attempting to restore wetlands elsewhere or buying wetland credit.
You may recall the years Bass Pro Shops attempted to build and invest on this land but then finally decided on the location in southwest Little Rock near Otter Creek.
