MIANCHI, China (CBS) -- At least five people died and 11 others were injured as an expressway bridge partially collapsed due to a truck explosion on Friday morning in central China's Henan Province, the local government said.
The explosion caused several vehicles to tumble from the bridge in Mianchi County, said the city government of Sanmenxia.
An 263-feet-long (80-meters) section of the bridge collapsed. The bridge is on the Lianhuo Expressway.
The exploded truck carried fireworks. Six vehicles have been retrieved from the debris and the rescue work is underway.
According to the Henan Administration of Work Safety, the explosion did cause the bridge collapse, but the cause of the explosion is unclear.
Affected by the accident, traffic on the expressway section has been suspended by relevant authorities.
The 2730 mile long (4,395-kilometer) Lianhuo Expressway links the cities of Lianyungang in Jiangsu Province and Khorgos in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It is a traffic artery in China that links eastern, central and western parts of China.
