MONTICELLO - University of Arkansas at Monticello senior Candace Virgadamo has been selected to the 2012-13 Capital One Women's Basketball Academic All-District Team for the NCAA Division II level.

The lone senior for the Cotton Blossoms currently sports an unblemished 4.0 grade point average and is majoring in exercise science.

Virgadamo was inducted into UAM's Alpha Chi Honor Society this past November, making her a member of the prestigious academic organization that recognizes the top 10 percent of students in their junior or senior years who have exceled in their chosen academic field.

The Conroe, Texas native was also a member of the Great American Conference All-Academic team in the inaugural 2011-12 cycle.

Virgadamo has played in 14 games this season for the Cotton Blossoms, and has made 12 starts at point guard. She currently averages seven points per game and leads the team with a total of 30 assists.

She has reached double-digits in scoring in three games this season, including her season high of 14 points in UAM's 78-62 victory over Arkansas-Fort Smith at home on November 16. Throughout her two-year career at UAM, Virgadamo has played in 41 games and has scored a total of 353 points for a career average of 8.6 points per game.

Virgadamo was one of two honorees selected from the Great American Conference membership along with Harding's Kristen Celsor.

With this honor, Virgadamo's name will now be placed on the ballot for the Capital One Academic All-America team, which will be announced later this season.
