LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A Fort Smith man has been convicted and sentenced to life in prison for the shooting death of a Dallas man outside a nightclub in Little Rock.
A Pulaski County jury convicted 32-year-old Edward Lee Thompson III of first-degree murder in the Christmas Eve 2012 shooting death of Richard Harkey Ratley II when Ratley intervened during the beating and robbery of his brother.
A defense attorney for Thompson denied that Thompson was involved in the attempted robbery of Tyler Ratley that led to the shooting. Tyler Ratley testified that Thompson was one of two men who beat and robbed him.
Prosecutors say Thompson has refused to divulge the identities of anyone else who may have been involved in the incident.
