LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- This may be the craziest thing you see today. There is an organism that looks like a rock, is immobile like a rock, but is a living organism.
According to Grist, this creature is called Pyura chilensis which is found off the coast of Peru and Chile.
Grist says it eats by sucking in water and filtering out the microorganisms. Also it has clear blood that secretes a rare mineral called vanadium.
Also, this "living rock" is born male, but becomes both male and female at puberty. To reproduce, it releases sperm and eggs into a cloud and hope they are successful at finding each other, which is called "selfing".
The locals in the area eat it raw or in stews and describe the taste as "bitter" or "soapy".
Who knew that an unsuspecting rock could be a living thing right underneath our feet?
