JACKSONVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) - The nicknames never end for 12-year-old Kayla Mitchell. The Jacksonville girl embraces each moment on the gridiron. Even though more females suit up for football every year her position may surprise you.

"She plays defensive tackle and offensive tackle, I think she led the team in sacks last year," said Joe Booker,Kayla's head coach.

Kayla chose football at the age of seven, snubbing the cheer squad. She went on to earn offensive player of the year for the 7 and 8-year-old team.

"Then when I was ten I fractured my wrist and that's when my mom told me that was the end of my football career," said Kayla.

Then the 12-year-old put her parent's faith to the test, begging to get back on the field.

"Kayla came to us and told us that she had faith that should could get out here and not get hurt," said Shon Mitchell, Kayla's mother.

"She said y'all always told us that if we have faith in God we can do anything so what can I say from there," said David Mitchell, Kayla's father.

A few days after church Kayla's parents decided she was right and let her strap on the pads

"I like the feeling when I make a tackle and I get out on the field and everyone is watching me," said Kayla.
