UNDATED (KTHV) -- A woman posted on the site Ask Metafilter asking for help solving a mystery that has plagued her family for over 20 years.
Slate.com first reported the woman posted "Decoding cancer-addled ramblings" saying:
My grandmother passed away in 1996 of a fast-spreading cancer. She was non-communicative her last two weeks, but in that time, she left at least 20 index cards with scribbled letters on them. My cousins and I were between 8-10 years old at the time, and believed she was leaving us a code. We puzzled over them for a few months trying substitution ciphers, and didn't get anywhere.
She posted pictures of the index cards who had writings on them like, "PDGNHBOBVPNSNHANAOENCNANHPNCPND,NUOCP
After about 15 minutes, people began posting with their ideas on how every letter could be the first letter of a word. One commenter said that "OFWAIHHBTN..." could be the Lord's Prayer "Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name..."
The thread continues on with other suggestions and translations. For more information about the grandmother and others' ideas, visit the thread at http://ask.metafilter.com/255675/Decoding-cancer-addled-ramblings Check it out, maybe you can contribute, too!
