The firearm of a Saline County sheriff's deputy apparently discharged accidentally at an IHOP restaurant in Benton.
The Benton Courier says the deputy apparently was at the restaurant for lunch Monday when the gun went off while the deputy was in the men's restroom.
The shot reportedly went through the restroom ceiling, leaving a bullet hole. Several people inside the restaurant heard the shot. An employee asked the deputy about the noise and he allegedly said that the toilet seat fell. He then left the restaurant but the newspaper says he told a restaurant worker that his gun had gone off.
Capt. Jason Massey says the sheriff's office is investigating. He says no one was hurt in the incident, and he declined to discuss it further.
