A Little Rock woman accused of strangling her mother to death with an extension cord has been sentenced to 18 years in prison.
Aileen Marie Berry, 48, pleaded no contest Wednesday to first-degree murder in the death of her mother, 76-year-old Virginia Jewell in 2002.(See link below picture for more stories about Berry.)
Jewell's body has never been found, but Berry's husband told police he burned the woman's body in a tire fire and threw the remains away to keep his wife from facing a capital murder charge.
Last year, Richard Dale Berry was sentenced to 12 years in prison with seven years suspended.
Aileen Berry told attorneys and authorities she suffered from multiple personalities. On Wednesday, Pulaski County Circuit Court Judge Barry Sims hesitated to accept Berry's plea, because she signed it "Kitty Shaver," which is the name of one of the five personalities she says she has. Berry added "for Aileen Berry" to the signature line and Sims accepted the plea.
