The National Weather Service says the dewpoint recorded at the North Little Rock airport on Tuesday hit a record 83 degrees. The dewpoint temperature is a measure of moisture in the air. The smaller the difference between the air temperature and dewpoint, the greater the humidity.
The previous record dewpoint was 80 degrees, set in 1980.
The weather service says at 3:30 p.m., the heat index was a sweltering 119 degrees in North Little Rock, with a 70 percent relative humidity.
