LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Bridal Show will be held from 12:30-5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock. In its 17th year, the show's 200 vendor booths help brides-to-be and their fiances plan their weddings from start to finish. This show is the largest in Arkansas and has an estimated 3,000 in attendance.

The bridal show is a mixture of businesses from across the state and beyond that include photographers, DJs, caterers, travel agents and reception sites, among other vendors. Two fashion shows, fun contests, (new) DIY workshops, a musical showcase of local acts and a $5,000 Ultimate Wedding Package Giveaway, along with some of the best names in the bridal industry, are just a few reasons brides depend on the bridal show to plan their weddings.

This year, the show is adding DIY workshops for brides. The workshops will take place on the Spotlight Stage throughout the day and will include a floral demonstration by Tanarah Haynie of Day Lily, make-your-own gifts and favors by Kristen Graddy of Along for the Bride and DIY hair by Salon Dyeversity. These fun and interactive workshops are a great way for brides to learn a few tricks and cut costs where appropriate.

The show continues to have contests and prizes to attract brides. The Make Up Your Bride contest will pair up brides with a friend, mother or spouse. The bride's partner will have to apply makeup and jewelry on the bride while blindfolded. Judges will determine the winner, who will receive prizes provided by Dillard's cosmetics.

The Best Dressed Groom contest will have grooms showing off their stuff to compete for free tuxedos for their wedding. They will have a custom-made gown by their fiancees (made of toilet paper) and the one with the most audience applause wins.

Another contest at the show is Bridesmaid's Face-Off. This will pair one bride's two bridesmaids against each other with questions about her. The one that answers the most questions correctly wins prizes provided by Vaness, Inc.

The Cake Dive, a crowd favorite at the show, will feature three brides who compete to win a wedding cake by Sweet Love Bakery. Blind-folded, the brides must dive in to find the fake diamond ring. The first one to find the ring, wins.

The Musical Showcase, held in the lobby of the show, will feature great options for brides looking for a string quartet, harp or violinist. Music, by various artists, provided by Central Arkansas Entertainment.

Two runway shows will take place on the main stage. More than 30 reception/party dresses from First Impressions will be modeled at 2 p.m. This high-engery show will feature styles for brides who are looking for something to wear to their reception, engagement, bridal shower and other wedding functions. The Runway Fashion Show will feature more than 50 outfits for the entire wedding party divided into either classic or modern, making it easier for brides to choose the perfect look. The show will begin at 4:30 p.m. on the same stage.

One lucky couple will win the Ultimate Wedding Package, valued at more than $5,000. The giveaway, which will be given out randomly at 5 p.m., features such prizes as photography, a DJ for the reception, rentals for the wedding coordinator, tuxedos, flowers, wedding cake and more. Other prizes will be given out throughout the show.

Brides-to-be will receive a free Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Bridal Planner. This is a complete guide to planning a wedding, including worksheets to help brides keep organized. The Bridal Planner includes beautiful photography, helpful editorials, checklists for brides and a listing of local businesses.

Tickets are $10 at the door or can be bought online for $7 in advance at select locations. Special, and limited, VIB (Very Important Bride) tickets are available for $30 and give brides special goodies include T-shirts, veils as well as reserve seating to the fashion shows.
