Killer farmer's markets and quick access to adventure are just some of the notable reasons Outside Magazine recently published an article about Little Rock. According to that article, the Arkansas River Trail System helped put Little Rock on the map, and the article applauds the $62 million the local government has invested in it.
Earlier in the month Kiplinger.com and Forbes Magazine recognized Little Rock as a great place for business and to live. Now, the city is becoming a favorite for adventure seekers.
Outside magazine said in recent years, Little Rock has become a runner's paradise. The designation is part of the magazine's "Best Towns of 2013" feature, which lists Little Rock among 19 cities across the country.
Little Rock native Chris Outlaw says he took off work Wednesday to enjoy the river trail
"It's wonderful; I love it. I actually have always wanted to move away from here. This is something that's kind of keeping me here," Outlaw said.
"Just the scenery, you go on the Two Rivers Bridge and there's deer all over the place back there," added Jaff Lenard, who comes to Little Rock from Benton because of the trail system. "You get to see all the nature."
The trails connect 38 parks that cover more than 5,000 acres. Wednesday, milder weather lured runners and bikers to the 34-mile network that loops around the Little Rock Metro area.
Young triathlete Hannah Hall says she's proud her hometown is getting its time to shine.
"It's just cool that it's so big of a thing that it's an outdoors place."
Pinnacle Mountain State Park also gained credit with nearly 2,500 acres of hiking and mountain biking.
