LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has scheduled an antlerless deer hunt on private lands in several zones.

The hunt is set for Oct. 12-16 and hunters may use modern guns, muzzleloaders or archery equipment. Antlerless deer are doe and include bucks with both antlers shorter than 2 inches.

This is the third consecutive year for the antlerless hunt that officials say helps manage the deer herd in Arkansas.

Hunting is allowed on private land only and includes property leased from timber companies and other private entities.

All wildlife management areas, national wildlife refuges and national forests are closed to the hunt.
