RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (ATU)-Despite an 11 kill effort from senior Sara Motsinger, a 34 assist effort from senior Amber Cerrillos, and a 19 dig effort from sophomore Morgan McKellar, the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns (7-4, 1-1 GAC) were swept 3-0 by the Harding University Lady Bisons (10-5, 2-0 GAC) tonight at Tucker Coliseum.
In the first set, the Golden Suns fought hard but fell 26-24. Harding took the next two 25-18 and 25-17.
"Minus the first set, I was very disappointed," said head coach Kristy Bayer. "I thought we played very well in the first set. In sets two and three, I thought we did not respond. We did not come out with energy and we were not intense. We were outworked by Harding and if we want to be successful in GAC play a lot of things are going to need to change."
Senior Stephanie Channell and sophomore Katie Huff each had six kills, while junior Emily Todd and freshman Kaylee Konsella had seven kills each. McKellar added two service aces and Motsinger added two blocks.
The attendance at tonight's Pack-the-Stands game broke the Arkansas Tech record with 1,235.
"We want to thank the fans and we hope that they will continue to come out to the rest of our home games," said Bayer.
The Golden Suns will face Henderson State in Arkadelphia, Ark. on Thursday, September 26 at 7 p.m.
