ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (HSU) The Henderson State men's and women's swimming teams finished in second place at the University of Arkansas at Little-Rock Christmas Invitational this past weekend.
The Lady Red Wave totaled 720 points in the three-day meet, to finish 28 points behind champion Drury (748). UALR placed third (609), followed by Ouachita Baptist (453) and Southwestern University (268).
Drury also won the men's division totaling 959 points, while the Red Wave scored 749 points. OBU placed third (539) in the four-team field, with Southwestern finishing with 428 points.
The Lady Red Wave began meet with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay. The team of Mary Allison Andrews, Melissa Ralston, Jeanne Miller, and Lauren Sutton scored 34 points by swimming the event in a time of 1:46.87. The group also placed third in the 400 medley relay (3:52.86).
In the 800 freestyle relay, the foursome of Jessica Miller, Sutton, Desi Lobuono and Jeanne Miller placed third with a time of 7:48.63.
Jeanne Miller took home an individual first-place finish in the 100 butterfly having a time of 56.96, while
Ralston turned in a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke, posting a time of 1:06.29. Miller also took second-place in the 200 butterfly (2:04.89).
Jessica Miller finished third in the 400 individual medley (4:38.93) and later finished second in the 200 backstroke (2:23.41). Miller finished the meet with a third-place finish in the 1650 freestyle (18:12.98).
The Red Wave placed third in the 200 medley relay to begin their portion of the meet. Guy Buls, Bence Greifenstein, Brandon Curley and Aaron Villemez teamed to finish the event in a time of 1:34.21 to score 32 points. The quartet later returned to the pool to place third in the 400 medley (3:26.41).
Colton Laramore, Villemez, Austin Bryant and Curley placed second in the 800 freestyle relay clocking in at 7:01.23.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Denver Dawson, Curley, Sean Bell and Villemez turned in a time of 1:25.24 to place third.
In the 100 butterfly, Will Waidhofer placed third with a time of 51.52, while Buls placed third in the 400 individual medley (4:05.72).
Buls turned in a time of 1:53.23 in the 200 individual medley to place third, while Dylan Anderson finished fourth (1:58.20), Bell fifth (1:58.59), and Bryant sixth (1:59.64).
Greifenstein scored 17 points for the Red Wave with a second-place finish in the 200 butterfly (1:54.66).
Jessica Jones placed third in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, while Adam Zmijewski was second in the 1-meter event and third in the 3-meter competition.
