JONESBORO, Ark. (A-State) - Arkansas State, ranked No. 1 in both the NTCA Coaches and Media Polls, will host the Mid-Winter Invitational Jan. 17-19 at the Jonesboro Bowling Center.
The field will consist of 13 teams including seven of the top 10 teams in the nation. Joining the No. 1 ranked Red Wolves will be No. 3 Central Missouri, No. 5 Stephen F. Austin, No. 6 Nebraska, No. 7 Wisconsin-Whitewater, No. 8 Vanderbilt, and No. 10 Sam Houston State. Rounding out the field will be No. 14 Valparaiso, No. 19 McKendree, Bethune-Cookman, UAB, Elmhurst, and Tulane.
"We've got some of the best teams in the central region coming to this tournament and seven of the top 10 in the nation here should make for a very competitive tournament," A-State bowling coach Justin Kostick said. "We're ready and eager to play since we're coming off the break. I believe we're ready for the challenge."
The Red Wolves enter this weekend's action with a record of 31-11 and has participated in three tournaments on the season. A-State began the season with a fourth-place finish out of 19 teams in the Fairleigh Dickinson Jamboree and followed that performance up by claiming the Crusader Classic championship. In Arkansas State's last tournament, the Big Red Invite, the Red Wolves claimed the best record at 11-3 and finished third overall in total pinfall.
The tournament gets underway Friday at 11:30 a.m. with team Baker matches, while Saturday's competition starts at 9 a.m. and will feature traditional team games. The bracket portion of the tournament will start on Sunday at 8 a.m. Admission to the Mid-Winter Invitational is free.
